What Is an Obby? The Obstacle Course Genre Explained
An obby is an obstacle course game: a chain of stages full of jumps, platforms and traps, where each stage ends at a checkpoint and hazards send you back to it.
The word obby is short for obstacle course. It became popular with players on Roblox, where player-made obstacle courses grew into one of the most played kinds of game, and the name has since spread to obstacle course games everywhere. Every obby follows a similar recipe: stages in order, jumps that need care and timing, a checkpoint at the end of each stage, and a trip back to that checkpoint when you fall or touch a hazard. Later stages add tighter jumps and trickier traps. Block Obby keeps the classic shape, stage after stage of platforms, lava and moving rides, in your browser with nothing to download. It is an original PlayQuestHQ game in the obby style, and it is not made by or linked to Roblox.

Obstacles in Block Obby
- Red neon bricks: touching them sends you back to your checkpoint.
- Lava: falling into it also sends you back.
- Yellow launch pads: throw you high into the air.
- Blue moving platforms: carry you across lava gaps.
- Green flags: checkpoints that save your stage.
- Coins: bonus points along the route.
How Checkpoints Work in Block Obby
Every green flag in Block Obby is a checkpoint. Touch a flag and your stage is saved, so lava and red neon bricks only ever send you back to that flag, never to the start of the course.
- Touch the flag to bank the stage: the flag at the end of a stage saves your progress the moment you reach it.
- Falls cost a death, not a stage: each time lava or a red neon brick catches you, your deaths count rises by one and you restart at the last flag.
- Your best stage is remembered: your best stage is saved in your browser on this device, so your record is still there when you come back.
- Flags reward patience: because a banked stage is safe, waiting for a moving platform or lining up a jump costs nothing but time.
Jumping Tips for Hard Stages
Most falls in an obby come from jumping too early or holding the arrow key too long. Run to the very edge before you jump, and let go of the arrow key in the air when you are above a small platform so you land on it instead of sliding off. On moving platforms, jump on when the platform is coming toward you, not when it is moving away.
Good to Know
What does obby mean?

Does Block Obby save my stage?
Yes, Block Obby saves your stage at every green flag. Each green flag is a checkpoint, so if you hit lava or a red neon brick, you go back to your last checkpoint instead of the very start of the course.
How many stages are in Block Obby?
There is no fixed number of stages in Block Obby, because the course never ends. Stages keep coming for as long as you can clear them, and the game counts your stage, your deaths and your best stage while you play.
