Playing with Your Computer Keyboard: Where the Notes Sit
On a computer, the letter row A to L plays the white keys and the letters above it play the black keys, laid out in the same order as a real piano. The full map is below.
| White keys | A S D F G H J K L, in order from low to high |
| Black keys, group of two | W E |
| Black keys, group of three | T Y U |
| Black keys, next group of two | O P |
The black key letters fall into groups of two and three, matching the black keys on a real piano, so your fingers learn the pattern quickly. Turn on Note names and each key shows its note name, so you can check where a note sits instead of guessing.
Learn a Song Note by Note
The Learn a song picker teaches you a tune one note at a time. Choose a song and the next key you need lights up green, so you always know where the melody goes next.
- Start here: Mary Had a Little Lamb uses only five notes, the easiest first song.
- Next: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star uses six notes and repeats, which makes it easy to learn by ear.
- Then: Ode to Joy, the Beethoven melody, moves step by step.
- A step up: Happy Birthday jumps between notes, and Jingle Bells and Row, Row, Row Your Boat complete the set of six songs.
Press each green key to move on, and play the song again with Note names turned off once it feels familiar.
