Tips to Win

  • Empty a column as early as you can. Any card or run can go there.
  • Build in the same suit whenever possible so runs can move together.
  • Turn over face down cards before dealing a new row.
  • Use Hint if you think you are stuck before dealing.

Spider Solitaire 1 Suit vs 2 Suits vs 4 Suits

  • 1 suit (easy): all 104 cards are spades. Great for learning and relaxing.
  • 2 suits (medium): spades and hearts. You need to plan which runs to build.
  • 4 suits (hard): spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds. Only experienced players win often.

Spider Solitaire Rules

The game uses two decks, 104 cards in total, dealt into 10 columns. You can place any card on a card one rank higher, but you can only move a group of cards together when they are the same suit and in order. When you build King to Ace in one suit, that run leaves the table. The deck deals one new card onto every column, five times per game.

How to Move Stacks in Spider Solitaire

A group can move only when every card is in descending order and all cards share one suit. Treat each unbroken same suit run as one movable unit, and treat every suit change as a break point.

Before moving a stack, check three things. First, confirm that the bottom card can land on a card one rank higher. Second, look at the face down card the move will reveal. Third, decide whether the move leaves a useful card buried under a mixed suit section.

  • Natural build: 9, 8 and 7 of spades can move together onto any 10.
  • Broken build: 9 of spades, 8 of hearts and 7 of spades cannot move as one group because the suit changes.
  • Empty column: use it as temporary space to separate a broken build into movable same suit parts.

Common Spider Solitaire Mistakes

The most damaging mistakes are dealing too early, filling an empty column without a plan, and building mixed suit piles that cannot move as a group. Each mistake reduces the number of cards you can rearrange on the next turn.

  • Dealing before checking: a new row lands on all ten columns and can bury a promising run. Check every move, reveal what you can and try Hint before dealing.
  • Wasting the empty column: parking a low card there may solve nothing. Keep the space for sorting cards or freeing a face down card.
  • Choosing the mixed suit move: a placement can be legal yet still lock the cards below it. Choose the same suit landing when both options are available.
  • Ignoring a reveal: a short move that turns a card face up often gives more value than a longer move that only tidies one column.

Spider Solitaire Difficulty: When to Move Up a Level

Start with 1 suit, move to 2 suits when making full runs and opening a column feel manageable, and treat 4 suits as an expert challenge. The layout and goal stay the same at every level, but the number of suit changes inside each column rises sharply.

1 suitAll cards are spades, so descending groups stay movable and almost any game can be won. Use this level to learn dealing, empty columns and full runs.
2 suitsSpades and hearts create broken builds that must be separated. Move up when you want planning to matter more than learning the controls.
4 suitsAll four suits are in play, and only experienced players win often. A blocked finish does not always mean a poor move was made earlier.

Good to Know

What is the difference between 1, 2 and 4 suits?

The difference is the number of suits in the 104 cards: 1 suit uses only spades, 2 suits use spades and hearts, and 4 suits use spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds. More suits make it harder to keep a descending group in one suit, so 1 suit is easiest and 4 suits is hardest.

Can I deal when a column is empty?

No, you cannot deal while any column is empty. Put at least one card in every empty column first, then tap the deck to deal one new card onto each of the ten columns.

Can cards from different suits move together?

No, cards from different suits cannot move together as a group. A single card can be placed on any card one rank higher, whatever the suit, but a group must be in descending order and share one suit from top to bottom.

What can I put in an empty column?

Any single card or any movable same suit run can go in an empty column. The space is most useful for sorting a mixed pile or moving cards away from a face down card, so avoid filling it without a next move in mind.

Can I play Spider Solitaire on my phone?

Yes, Spider Solitaire works on phones and tablets as well as on laptops and desktop computers. Tap a card to move it to the best column or drag it yourself, tap the deck to deal, and play with no download or sign-up.

Is my Spider Solitaire progress saved?

No. Each game starts fresh when you open the page, and nothing is uploaded or stored.
