8 Ball Pool: Play a Free Pool Game Online
Solids, stripes and the 8 ball · Works on mobile & desktop · No download
8 ball pool is the classic pool game played in bars, clubs and homes around the world. Play this free pool game online against the computer or a friend: break the rack, claim solids or stripes, and clear your group before you sink the black 8 ball. A guide line shows where the white ball will hit. This is an original PlayQuestHQ game that plays standard eight ball rules. For another aim and bounce game, try Bubble Shooter.
8 Ball Pool is free to play on PlayQuestHQ with no download and no sign-up. It works on phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
Touch the table and pull back away from where you want to shoot, like a slingshot. The further you pull, the harder the shot. Let go to shoot.
How to Play 8 Ball Pool
- Choose Vs computer (Easy or Hard) or 2 players.
- Break: you may drag the white ball along the left side first, then shoot into the rack.
- Touch the table and pull back away from where you want to shoot. The further you pull, the harder the shot.
- After the break, the first ball you sink sets your group: solids (1 to 7) or stripes (9 to 15).
- Sink all of your group, then the 8 ball, to win. Sinking the 8 ball early loses the game.
Controls
Click and drag back from where you want to shoot, then let go. When you have ball in hand, drag the white ball to place it first.
Touch, pull back and let go to shoot. On phones the table turns sideways so the balls are bigger.
Tips to Win
- Aim with the dotted line: the small yellow line shows where the object ball will go.
- Softer shots are easier to control. Use full power only on the break.
- When you have ball in hand, place the white ball close to an easy shot.
- Leave the 8 ball near a pocket for the end of the game.
8 Ball Pool Rules
There are 15 numbered balls and the white cue ball. Balls 1 to 7 are solids and 9 to 15 are stripes. The table is open after the break. The first player to sink a ball on a later shot takes that group. Your turn continues while you sink balls from your group. After your group is cleared, sink the 8 ball to win.
Fouls and Ball in Hand
- Sinking the white ball (a scratch).
- Not hitting any ball.
- Hitting a ball from the wrong group first, or the 8 ball first before your group is cleared.
After a foul the other player has ball in hand. Sinking the 8 ball too early, or scratching while sinking it, loses the game. If the 8 ball goes in on the break, it goes back on its spot.
How to Aim and Control Power
Pull back in a straight line behind the white ball. The longer the pull, the stronger the shot, shown by the power bar. The dotted line ends with a ghost ball where the white ball will make contact, and the yellow line shows where the object ball will travel.
How the Break Works in 8 Ball Pool
The break is the opening shot of every game, and you set it up yourself. Drag the white cue ball along the left side of the table to place it, then pull back and shoot into the rack.
- The break is the one shot where full power helps, because a hard hit spreads the rack and gives the balls a chance to drop.
- The table stays open after the break, whatever falls. Your group is set by the first ball sunk on a later shot, not by the break.
- If the 8 ball goes in on the break, it goes back on its spot and play carries on. Nobody wins or loses on that shot.
Playing 2 Players on One Device
Two people can play a full game of 8 ball pool on one phone, tablet or computer with the 2 players mode. You take turns at the same table: sink a ball from your group and you shoot again, miss or foul and the turn passes.
- Groups work exactly as they do against the computer: the first ball sunk after the break sets solids or stripes.
- A foul hands the other player ball in hand, so they can place the white ball anywhere before their shot.
- On a phone the table turns sideways, which makes the balls bigger and shared turns easy to follow.
Good to Know
Is this the 8 Ball Pool app?
No. This is an original pool game made by PlayQuestHQ, and it is not made by, linked to or endorsed by Miniclip or the 8 Ball Pool app. It plays the classic eight ball rules used in pool halls, against the computer or a friend on one device.
What is a foul in 8 ball pool?
A foul is sinking the white ball, hitting no ball at all, or hitting a ball from the wrong group first, including the 8 ball before your group is cleared. After a foul the other player gets ball in hand and can place the white ball anywhere.
What happens if I sink the 8 ball early?
Sinking the 8 ball before your group is cleared loses the game at once, and so does scratching on the shot that sinks the 8 ball. The one exception is the break: an 8 ball sunk on the break goes back on its spot and play carries on.
Can two players play 8 Ball Pool on one device?
Yes. Choose the 2 players mode and take turns on the same phone, tablet or computer. Your turn continues while you sink balls from your group, and a miss or a foul passes the turn to the other player.
Can I play 8 Ball Pool on my phone?
Yes. The game runs in your phone browser with nothing to download and no sign-up. Touch the table, pull back and let go to shoot, and the table turns sideways on phones so the balls are bigger.
Is my 8 Ball Pool progress saved?
No. Each game starts fresh when you open the page, and nothing is uploaded or stored.
