How to Play Dominoes
- Choose Draw or Block dominoes, and play to 100 or 50 points.
- You and the computer get 7 tiles each from a double six set.
- Match a tile to an open end of the line: the numbers that touch must be the same.
- In Draw, take tiles from the boneyard when you cannot play. In Block, you pass.
- Play all your tiles first to win the round and score the pips left in the other hand.
Controls
Click a glowing tile to play it. If it fits both ends, click the glowing end you want. Use Draw a tile or Pass when you have no match.
Tap a glowing tile to play it, then tap an end if it fits both. The buttons above the table draw a tile or pass.
Tips to Win
- Play heavy tiles like 6-6 and 5-6 early, so they do not count against you.
- Keep a mix of numbers in your hand so you always have a match.
- Count which numbers have been played to guess what the computer is holding.
- Doubles are hard to place late in the round, so play them while you can.
Dominoes Basics: Tiles, Boneyard and Turns
Each player starts with 7 tiles and the rest stay face down in the boneyard. The player with the highest double starts. On your turn, place one tile so that its number matches an open end of the line. The first player to play every tile wins the round.
Draw Dominoes vs Block Dominoes
- Draw dominoes: if you cannot play, draw tiles from the boneyard until you can. Pass only when the boneyard is empty.
- Block dominoes: no drawing. If you cannot play, you pass, so planning matters even more.
Dominoes Game Rules for Scoring
The winner of a round scores the total number of pips (dots) left in the other player's hand. The first player to reach the target score, 50 or 100, wins the game. The winner of each round starts the next one.
Dominoes Strategy: Play Heavy Tiles Early
The safest dominoes strategy is to protect your score first: heavy tiles left in your hand become points for the computer when a round ends, so play tiles like 6-6 (12 pips) and 5-6 (11 pips) early.
- Play heavy tiles first: a tile you cannot place later counts against you at full value.
- Keep a mix of numbers: a hand spread across many numbers almost always has a match for one of the open ends.
- Count what has been played: when most tiles showing a number are already on the table, an end with that number is harder for the computer to match.
- Play doubles while you can: doubles fit the same ends as other tiles but sit across the line, and they get harder to place as the round goes on.
Good to Know
How many dominoes are in a set?
A standard double six set has 28 dominoes, one for every pair of numbers from 0 to 6, including the seven doubles.
What happens if nobody can play?
The round is blocked. The player with fewer pips in hand wins and scores the pips left in the other hand. If both totals are equal, nobody scores.
What is the boneyard in dominoes?
The boneyard is the pile of tiles left over after the hands are dealt. In this game 14 tiles stay in the boneyard: in Draw dominoes you take tiles from it when you cannot play, and in Block dominoes it stays untouched and you pass instead.
How do you win a game of dominoes?
You win the game by reaching the target score first, 50 or 100 points, whichever you chose at the start. You score by emptying your hand or by holding fewer pips in a blocked round, and each round adds the pips left in the other hand to your score.
Can I play dominoes with friends on this page?
No, this dominoes game is single player against the computer. You play Draw or Block dominoes against the computer opponent, with no accounts, no rooms and no waiting for other players.
Is my Dominoes progress saved?
No. Each game starts fresh when you open the page, and nothing is uploaded or stored.
