Classic numbered deals · Works on mobile & desktop · No download

FreeCell solitaire is the patience game where every card is face up from the start, so skill matters more than luck. FreeCellGame #1Moves 0Time 0:00

Move every card to the four foundations, Ace to King by suit. Use the four free cells to park single cards. In the columns, build down in alternating colors. Tap a card to move it to the best spot, or drag it.

How to Play FreeCell

  1. All 52 cards are dealt face up into 8 columns.
  2. Move Aces to the four foundations, then build each suit up to the King.
  3. In the columns, place a card on one that is one rank higher and the opposite color.
  4. Park any single card in one of the four free cells.
  5. Tap a card to move it to the best spot, or drag it. Cards that are safe to move go to the foundations by themselves.

Controls

Laptop / PC

Click a card to move it automatically, or drag cards between columns, free cells and foundations. Use Undo as often as you like.

Phone / Tablet

Tap a card to send it to the best spot, or drag it with your finger. Tap Hint if you are stuck.

Tips to Win

  • Free the Aces and Twos early.
  • Keep free cells empty as long as you can. Each empty cell lets you move more cards at once.
  • An empty column is worth more than a free cell, so try to clear one.
  • Plan a few moves ahead before you fill your last free cell.

FreeCell Rules

Foundations build up by suit from Ace to King. Columns build down in alternating colors, such as a red 9 on a black 10. Each free cell holds one card. Any card or valid run can move into an empty column. You win when all four foundations are complete.

How Many Cards Can You Move at Once in FreeCell?

You can move a run of cards together if you have enough space to move them one by one. The number is (empty free cells + 1) multiplied by 2 for every empty column. With 2 empty free cells and 1 empty column you can move 6 cards. Moving into an empty column counts one less column.

FreeCell Solitaire Online Tips for Hard Deals

Look at the whole table before your first move. Find where the Aces are buried, count how many cards sit on top of them and dig out the one with the fewest. Undo is unlimited, so try a plan, and if it fails, step back and try another.

FreeCell vs Klondike: What Is Different?

FreeCell and Klondike are both solitaire games, but FreeCell hides nothing: all 52 cards are face up, there is no stock to draw from, and four free cells give you extra room to sort cards.

That full view changes the feel of the game: a FreeCell deal is a puzzle to solve, while a Klondike deal can turn on cards you have not seen yet.

Good to Know

Can every FreeCell game be won?

Almost every one can. Of the 32000 numbered deals on this page, deal 11982 is the one famous deal known to be impossible, and every other deal has a solution if you find the right moves.

What are the deal numbers?

Each number from 1 to 32000 stands for one fixed deal, the same numbering the classic FreeCell programs used. Type a number and press Play to deal that game, replay a favourite, or challenge a friend to beat the same deal.

Is FreeCell a game of skill or luck?

Mostly skill. Every card is face up from the start, so you can plan the whole deal, and of the 32000 numbered deals only deal 11982 is known to be impossible. If a deal can be solved, finding the moves is down to planning, not luck.

Why will my stack not move?

A stack will not move if one card breaks the order or if you lack the free space to shift it. Every card in the run must sit one rank lower than the card above it and alternate in colour, and the run must fit the limit set by your empty free cells and empty columns.

Can any card go into an empty column?

Yes, any single card or movable run can go into an empty column. Unlike Klondike, an empty FreeCell column does not have to start with a King, and a run placed there keeps its alternating order.

Is my FreeCell progress saved?

No. Each deal starts fresh, but every deal has a number, so you can enter the same number later to replay that exact game.
