Edge of Memories launches on December 3, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The action JRPG from Midgar Studio and publisher Nacon was first dated for November 5, but it was delayed so it would not be buried in the same month as GTA 6 and the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Here is the new release date, why it moved, the story, the real-time combat system and the demo explained.

Edge of Memories Release Date: Why It Moved to December 3

Edge of Memories was announced in February 2025 and later locked in for November 5, 2026. In October, Nacon pushed the launch back by four weeks to December 3, 2026. The publisher said the quieter period will let players discover the game at their own pace, a clear reference to a November calendar headlined by the Ocarina of Time remake on November 5 and GTA 6 on November 19.

The delay is only about timing. The game itself is finished enough that Nacon is releasing an updated PC demo in early November, built from community feedback on the earlier demo, with changes to combat, gameplay and accessibility.

Edge of Memories Story: Eline and the Corrosion

The game is set on Avaris, a continent being consumed by the Corrosion, an affliction that mutates plants, animals and people into grotesque abominations. You play Eline, a young Soul Whisperer who travels the continent helping the nomads who fled the plague. Eline is not just fighting the Corrosion in the world: it is spreading inside her own body too, which gives the journey a personal deadline.

She does not travel alone. Her companions include her mentor Ysoris and Kanta, a prince-shaman from a lost tribe. The story continues the world and the Corrosion thread that Midgar Studio built in Edge of Eternity, its 2021 tactical RPG, but it is written to work as a starting point for new players.

Gameplay: Real-Time Combat, Berserker Form and the Nekaroo

The biggest change from Edge of Eternity is the combat. The hex-grid turn-based battles are gone. Edge of Memories is a third-person action RPG where you chain fast sword attacks and skills into combos in real time, and you can trigger a Berserker transformation that turns Eline into a rage-fuelled attacker for short bursts. Your companions fight beside you, and you can customise them and call on their individual skills depending on the fight.

Exploration covers the plains of Argat, the dense forest of Kaishan and the Sanctorium lands in the Kezal Mountains, plus port cities and snowy ranges. You cross the continent on your feline companion, the Nekaroo, and as the Corrosion spreads through the story, regions you already visited change and open new paths. The world is built in Unreal Engine 5 with an art style inspired by French animation.

Do You Need to Play Edge of Eternity First?

No. Nacon describes Edge of Memories as an adventure made for longtime fans and newcomers alike. It shares the world and the Corrosion storyline with Edge of Eternity, and returning players will recognise the references, but Eline’s journey is a new story with a new cast at the centre. If you do want the full background, Edge of Eternity is the 2021 game that introduced this world, and it plays very differently, with tactical turn-based combat instead of real-time action.

Edge of Memories Demo and Editions

An updated demo arrives on Steam in early November 2026 and covers the first few hours of the adventure. It includes the combat and accessibility improvements Nacon made after feedback on the previous demo, so it is the best way to test the new real-time combat before launch.

Alongside the standard edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition adds extra costumes, the digital soundtrack and a digital artbook. The soundtrack itself is a selling point: it is composed by Cedric Menendez with vocals from Emi Evans and Marion Schneider, and the ending theme is composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. When the game was dated for November, the Deluxe Edition also carried three days of early access. Nacon has not confirmed the revised early access timing since the move to December 3, so treat that detail as unconfirmed for now.

What to Play While You Wait for Edge of Memories

The December 3 date leaves a JRPG-shaped gap in November, and the obvious fill-in is Metaphor: ReFantazio, which brings Atlus’s fantasy RPG to Switch 2 on November 12. It is one of the games we track in our November 2026 game releases roundup, alongside GTA 6 and the Zelda remake.
